Toyota introduces new 400+ HP 2.0L engine for sports cars

To stand taller against rival carmakers, Toyota has introduced an advanced 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces over 400 horsepower. 

This powerful engine, revealed by Toyota’s chief technology officer Hiroki Nakajima, marks a significant advancement in Toyota’s sports car lineup. 

Designed for transverse and longitudinal mounting, the engine showcases Toyota’s commitment to innovation and performance. It debuted at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon in a mid-engine test mule. 

While the initial target was 400 horsepower, Nakajima hinted that the engine’s potential exceeds this figure.  

This high-performance engine is set to power a new generation of Toyota and Lexus sports cars. Potential recipients include successors to iconic models like the Supra, Celica, and MR2. 

Additionally, it is likely to feature high-performance trims of current Toyota models, offering enthusiasts an unmatched driving experience.
