With countless Pakistanis eyeing to penetrate the gulf region, the UAE Consul General in Karachi Dr Bakheet Ateeq Al Rumaithi announced that the free trade agreement (FTA) between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Pakistan is awaiting Islamabad to sign to come into effect.

As many skilled and unskilled nationals looking forward to earning better bread and butter in UAE, the UAE consul general revealed that talks on the FTA have progressed to an advanced stage.

To the delight of those eager to fetch UAE visas, the envoy clarified that the UAE is not rejecting visa applications from Pakistan, outlining that Pakistan is the top priority for the UAE for business and investment.

The Consul General brought this to light while addressing a media briefing following the inauguration ceremony of Emirates World in Karachi, according to Business Recorder.

“We are just waiting for your country (Pakistan)…to sign it,” said Al Rumaithi while reflecting on the current status of the FTA between the two nations.

Once signed, the agreement will give rise to trade activities by cutting import duties on various goods between Pakistan and UAE, Pakistan’s third-largest trade partner after China and the US.
