Volkswagen is stepping up its push into affordable electric vehicles with the reveal of its ID. Cross concept, an entry-level EV positioned as the electric counterpart to the popular T-Cross.

Built on the next-generation MEB Plus platform, the ID. Cross promises better batteries, motors, and software compared to VW’s current EV lineup.

Volkswagen ID. Cross concept design

The design language on this concept is “friendlier”, including slender headlights and a smiling light bar. Measuring 4,161 mm (164.5 in) long and 1,839 mm (72.4 in) wide, the ID. Cross is shorter than the ID.4 SUV but utilises space smartly with 450 litres of storage plus a rare frunk with an additional 25 litres.

The interior maintains practicality with fold-flat seats, fabric surfaces, and physical steering wheel buttons.

Volkswagen ID. Cross concept specifications

With a front-wheel drive motor making 155 kW (208 hp) of power, the ID. Cross has a 420 km (260 miles WLTP) range and a top speed of 175 km/h (108 mph). Further, VW added a towing capacity feature for up to 75 kg, enough for two e-bikes.

The ID. Cross will debut in "production" form next summer, along with the ID. Polo and ID. Polo GTI. Designed specifically for Europe, VW has mentioned nothing about the ID. Cross making it to US shores, a distinct absence as rivals Hyundai, Kia, and BMW have gained traction in the global EV market.
