BMW has finally lifted the curtain on its highly-anticipated iX3 electric SUV, the first model under its next-generation Neue Klasse platform, at the Munich Auto Show 2025.
The new BMW iX3 debuts with several groundbreaking features, including the brand’s first 800-volt architecture. This enables ultra-fast charging of up to 400 kW, adding nearly 230 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
BMW iX3 EV features
Powered by BMW's new in-house Gen6 cylindrical battery cells, the iX3 offers a 30% improvement in range while also improving charge speed and energy density and lowering manufacturing costs.
The BMW iX3 boasts an impressive estimated range of up to 400 miles on a full charge, according to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ratings. This exceptional range solidifies the iX3's position as a leading electric SUV in the market, offering customers a compelling blend of performance, luxury, and sustainability.
The first of the iX3 line will be putting out 463 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque with all-wheel drive. US availability will be in mid-2026, starting off at a base price of $60,000, and it will eventually also be available in rear-wheel drive options later.
Rather than being another EV application that runs on a consumer's phone, the iX3 will have a BMW-built computer called the "Heart of Joy". This is just one of four next-gen centralised computing "superbrains" designed to manage control of traction control, stability, and motor performance.
In addition to the iX3's Panoramic iDrive digital display system and physical buttons on the steering wheel to assist in utilising key functions.
At full functionality with features like digital keys, over-the-air updates, and standard wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, the iX3 looks organised for a software-defined drive experience.
