The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government has officially launched a new initiative under the Pakistan Accelerated Vehicle Electrification (PAVE) programme, providing citizens with a new facility to own electric motorcycles.

With the newly introduced PAVE programme, Pakistanis can purchase electric motorcycles at a low subsidised price and on flexible instalment plans.

The federal government aims to promote sustainable transportation by introducing eco-friendly two-wheelers, specifically electric bikes, at subsidised prices.

This initiative seeks to reduce the nation's reliance on petrol-fuelled vehicles, mitigating the environmental impact and financial burden associated with traditional fuel-based transportation.

Notably, the PAVE scheme will include a Rs50,000 subsidy on Crown electric bikes, and all instalment payments are said to be interest-free. It will be a cost-effective opportunity for a broad audience, as the citizens will not be charged any processing fees, according to the government of Pakistan.

PAVE scheme eligibility criteria

The federal government noted that the programme will be open to all Pakistani citizens between 18 and 65 years of age, but women, persons with disabilities and overseas Pakistanis will be given preference.

How to apply for PAVE scheme?

Citizens can easily apply online through the official portal. A computerised lottery will be used to select, aiming to keep transparency.

The government has partnered with Crown Electric Mobility, one of the manufacturers of electric bikes in Pakistan, to provide the vehicles.

According to officials, people have reacted favourably, noting that electric motorcycles have become a reality, and they provide not only financial benefits but also green alternatives when it comes to transportation.
