The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Tuesday released its report listing city-wise tax contributions for the fiscal year 2023-24.

For those eager to know about the biggest taxpayer city in Pakistan, data shared in the report disclosed cities and the tax they contributed to the country's economy.

In line with the widely accepted estimation, Karachi remained in the lead with a tax contribution of Rs2,522 billion, retaining its position as the biggest taxpayer city, The Express Tribune highlighted while citing the FBR report.

Out of Rs2,522bn tax collected by Karachi's Large Tax Office (LTO) during the fiscal year 2023-2024, over Rs1,360bn came from income tax while Rs136.3 million was secured from federal excise duty. On top of it, the LTO Karachi obtained more than Rs1,000bn in sales tax.

As per the report, the topper city is followed by Lahore and Islamabad as the second and third runner-ups, with their respective LTOs collecting a total of Rs1,402bn and Rs1,164bn, respectively, in tax.
