The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) announced on Thursday the completion of repair work on a 48-inch water pipeline at the K-II pumping station, as residents of the Central and East districts continue to face a severe water shortage.
The residents of two densely populated districts have been facing water shortage since October 12 after a power breakdown occurred at the North East Pumping Station.
While the underground cable fault was resolved, another problem hit the metropolitan city’s water supply, affecting the residents of different areas.
In a statement, a KWSC spokesperson said work on the damaged pipeline began on Tuesday.
During the repair work, the KWSC replaced the valve on the pipeline and temporarily suspended three of the 11 pumps at the North East Pumping Station and one at the Dhabeji Pumping Station.
They added that the damaged line has disrupted nearly 35 to 40% of the city's total supply.
The worst-hit localities include Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, the Federal B Area, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, PIB Colony, and Malir, where residents have been without water for several days.
Meanwhile, a KWSC spokesman informed that the repair work on the damaged 48-inch diameter rising main line at the North East Pumping Station K-II was completed, restoring water supply to the impacted areas of the metropolitan city.
