The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Model Colony Town Municipal Corporation for the establishment of the sixth mega centre in Malir District, aimed at improving ID-related services.

Taking to Facebook, the authority stated: "The mega centre will operate 24 hours a day, six days a week. Approximately seven million citizens of the Malir and Korangi districts will benefit, with services to be provided to up to three thousand citizens daily at thirty one-window counters.

"A central air conditioning system will be installed, and the waiting room will have a capacity of 1,000 people," said Nadra, adding that all identity document services will be provided to citizens in the mega centre.

Special counters will be set up for inheritance certificates, Pak-ID, thalassemia tests, arms licenses and senior citizens.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Model Town Chairman Zafar Ahmed Khan said: "A half-acre (10,800 square feet) of land has been provided for the project, and the mega centre will be operational within eight months.

Ahmed stressed that this is an era of technology and artificial intelligence (AI), but technology has also increased risks of cybercrime, and Nadra has full strength, with all important security measures to protect its data from security threats and breaches in accordance with modern requirements.

Citizens can also get ID-related services through Nadra's Pak-ID mobile application without standing in long queues waiting for their turn.
