YouTube has introduced a new gaming capability with the launch of Playables Builder, a new AI experiment which enables the creation of playable games on the platform.

The beta version of the service is now available to a limited number of YouTubers who create gaming content.

YouTube Gaming's playable Builder

According to a YouTube Gaming report, Playables Builder is a web-based prototype that is backed by the third generation of Google’s generative AI, named Gemini 3.

Playables Builder is a solution that allows users to develop mini games using natural language commands, meaning that one does not need any programming knowledge.

This feature comes as the interactive videos segment is gaining traction on the platform. It was only in 2023 that YouTube added the ability to play small-scale games on the platform, helping users enjoy the experience on desktop and mobile devices. It was only in 2024 that the firm added multiplayer abilities to Playables.

‘Playables Builder’ also showcases Google's overall approach to incorporating AI into its products. Like ‘Disco’ and ‘GenTabs’, products of Google ‘Labs’, ‘Playables Builder’ utilises conversational inputs to create interactive digital stories. Google's aim here is to democratise content creation by removing technical barriers.
