As Pakistan continues to grapple with the availability of key components crucial for the 5G spectrum auction, slated for April, the schedule for the launch of 5G services in the country has been presented in parliament.
The News reported, citing documents issued by the Ministry of IT and Telecom, that telecom operators across Pakistan will offer 5G services by June 2025.
The submission of recommendations of the National Economic Research Associates (NERA), the consultant hired by Pakistan for the 5G rollout, to the Spectrum Advisory Committee will be carried out next month.
In line with NERA's recommendations, the committee is expected to finalise and introduce relevant reforms including spectrum pricing, trading conditions and taxation.
As noted by the publication, the federal government will approve this policy draft in April, followed by the auction of 3500 MHz, 2600 MHz, 2300 MHz, and 700 MHz spectrum in May.
Timely fulfilment of these prerequisites will enable telecom operators nationwide to launch 5G services by June 2025.
The document stated that the IT ministry aims to revolution the telecom sphere by launching 5G services to ensure high-speed, unperturbed internet across Pakistan.
