In a move to revolutionise the realm of AirPods, Apple has announced that AirPods Max will soon support lossless audio and ultra-low latency audio when connected via the USB-C cable.
The update, set to arrive in April, will enhance audio quality and reduce lag, particularly benefiting musicians and gamers.
With this upgrade, AirPods Max will support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio, preserving the original quality of recordings.
The iPhone maker highlighted that Personalised Spatial Audio will also support lossless audio, providing a more immersive and uncompressed listening experience. Users with Apple Music will be able to enjoy over 100 million songs in lossless quality.
For music producers, ultra-low latency will allow for seamless recording and mixing with Personalised Spatial Audio and head tracking, ensuring sound accuracy. Gamers will also benefit from lower latency, improving real-time audio synchronisation.
These features will roll out as a free firmware update alongside iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4, But they will be available exclusively for the USB-C version of AirPods Max, with the Lightning model not receiving these enhancements.
