Amazon is reportedly gearing up to release a next-generation Alexa experience powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
According to a report, the e-commerce giant is planning to unveil the revamped Alexa at an event on February 26 in New York, US.
The upgraded Alexa is expected to boast significant improvements over its preceding iteration, including the ability to respond to multiple commands in sequence.
This development also marks a departure from the current version of Alexa, which typically handles only one request at a time.
New Amazon Alexa in development
The new AI-powered Alexa is designed to converse with users and perform tasks on their behalf, setting it apart from its predecessors.
Initially, the company aimed to offer the new Alexa experience to a limited number of users for free. However, now the retail juggernaut is also considering introducing a monthly fee between $5 and $10.
Meanwhile, the existing "Classic Alexa" will be available free of charge. During its development phase, the AI-powered assistant struggled with simple tasks, such as setting timers.
It’s worth mentioning that Amazon's decision to upgrade Alexa is also seen as a strategic move to generate revenue from its vast user base, which exceeds 500 million Alexa-enabled devices worldwide.
