The US-based artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic, an OpenAI rival, has released its new major AI model with step-by-step reasoning capabilities to compete with Chinese companies such as DeepSeek and Alibaba in the generative AI industry.
Reportedly, the new AI model is claimed to be the world’s first “hybrid reasoning” AI model, featuring various reasoning approaches to solve complex problems more efficiently.
Anthropic’s Claude 3.7 Sonnet model
According to the San Francisco-based company, the Claude 3.7 Sonnet model is the company’s most advanced model and will be available on all Claude plans such as Free, Pro, Team and Enterprise.
Compared to previous versions, Anthropic's new model excels at handling complex tasks. The model is exceptional at analysing complex codebases and performing well on various business-related benchmarks.
Anthropic also noted that the model’s "extended thinking mode" feature will only be available to paid plans.
The Amazon and Google-backed startup also highlighted that in extended thinking mode, the model self-reflects before answering, improving its performance on math, physics, instruction-following, coding, and many other tasks.
Anthropic’s new model’s price
It is worth mentioning that Anthropic's new model is cheaper than OpenAI's o1 model, costing $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens compared to $15 and $60, respectively.
