With Apple Intelligence arriving on the iPhone, Apple is set to boost its Journal app with artificial intelligence (AI) features. The app was first supposed to be integrated into iOS 17 however, it missed the launch and was held back until iOS 17.2.
The Journal app allows users to write down their thoughts, feelings, and ideas through journaling. The app also allows users to set alerts for themselves that would remind them to make new entries which are private and only they can access.
Previously, Apple had announced a few changes to the Journal app with iOS 18, however, now the company is also planning to integrate Apple Intelligence into the app.

The patent, granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), describes that there are a few ways the Journal app might take advantage of AI.
The patent suggests that AI with the Journal app could alert the users when it finds something significant has occurred such as it may ask the users to make a journal entry if it notices that they have captured a lot of images at a similar location and in one go.
Moreover, Apple might also change the way days are recorded by updating it with a new timeline-like structure, and would also be able to put in photos, and music in between text entries for users to revisit their memorable days.
If a user struggles with creative ideas, the Journal app could also give inspiration using generative AI. And could suggest prompts such as “How was your day?” or “How was the restaurant you visited?”
The patent also showed a tablet suggesting that Apple might consider bringing Journal to iPadOS.
Since these are just concepts in a patent, therefore it is not confirmed whether Apple is planning to introduce these features any time soon on its Journal app or not.
