Apple's rumoured iPhone 16 series might introduce a redesigned rear camera layout, according to a tipster. A leaked image showing the camera module of the iPhone 16 model suggests that this design will be the first since the iPhone 12 with a vertically positioned camera layout. A leak also hints at the iPhone 16 lineup consisting of five models, with a "Plus SE" variant possibly replacing the existing 6.7-inch Plus model.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), tipster Majin Bu shared the image of the purported camera module, which aligns with previous reports suggesting a vertical camera layout for the iPhone 16. MacRumors claims to have verified the authenticity of the I-34 camera project component independently through industry sources.
The same X user leaked renders purportedly depicting the iPhone 16 series. Unlike the iPhone 15 lineup, which comprises four models, this year's lineup could include five models: iPhone 16 SE, iPhone 16 Plus SE, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
According to the leaked images, the iPhone SE models may feature a single rear camera, while the standard iPhone 16 model could sport two cameras arranged vertically. The higher-end iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models may boast a vertically aligned triple rear camera setup. However, it’s important to note that the X user says they have no further information on the source of the image.

The anticipated changes to the camera layout aren't the only upgrades expected in the iPhone 16 series. Apple is reportedly planning to equip all models with an Action Button (introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro models) and a dedicated Capture button, providing convenient access to the camera.
It's worth noting that there's still some time before the speculated launch of Apple's iPhone 16 models. Furthermore, it remains unclear whether Apple will discontinue the iPhone 15 Plus in favour of a larger iPhone 16 Plus SE variant with a single camera and possibly a lower price tag. More information about Apple's 2024 iPhone lineup is anticipated to emerge in the coming months.
