Apple's highly anticipated 2025 "Awe Dropping" event put the spotlight on the cameras on the new iPhone 17, particularly the Pro and Pro Max. The company showed off a slew of advanced tools for professional creators, letting the world know how deep it is getting into high-end video production.
Notably, there was ProRes RAW recording on iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.This will give a videographer raw data from the camera sensor, giving them as much room in edits, colours, and exposure as possible.
Moreover, Genlock will also be available, which will keep frames in sync for a shooting approach to multi-cameras and tricks, such as "bullet time", which you see in movies.
Apple Final Cut Camera 2.0
In addition to the new products, Apple also presented its Final Cut Camera 2.0, which is a new app that will help to unlock this world. The update added open gate recording for using the full sensor for a wider shot, Apple's Log 2 for a greater variety of colours, and more flexible timecode options for those working with professional workflows. The new lens on the iPhone 17 Pro (200 mm) will also have a video capture capability of 4K60 fps.
The Centre Stage front camera, offered on all models, including the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and Pro models, was another big announcement. It has a wider field of view, and now, users can shoot in portrait or landscape without turning the phone when doing so.
For creators in Pakistan and all over, these updates mean iPhone is not just a smartphone camera anymore. It is now becoming a professional video camera. Apple also confirmed that Final Cut Camera 2.0 will also be released later this month for download from the App Store, free for all users."
