Apple may finally be stepping deeper into the AI race, with reports suggesting the tech giant is now working on its own ChatGPT-like search experience.
According to Bloomberg, Apple has quietly created a new internal team called Answers, Knowledge and Information (AKI), which is to develop in-house AI services that will change the ways in which users search for and interact with information on Apple devices.
Apple's current AI endeavour, Apple Intelligence, has been less than impressive with its initial features, including Genmoji and Notification Summaries. More importantly, Apple has postponed their all-new Siri, which was envisioned as the flagship product for its AI initiative, by more than a year.
The AKI team was formed by Robby Walker, who was an Executive with Siri, who, when asked internally earlier this year about the delays to Siri, described it as “ugly and embarrassing”.
Reportedly, the team is investigating various AI search possibilities, from embedding smarter responses into Siri to potentially designing an AI search experience modelled after Perplexity, the AI search company they had previously considered as a potential partner.
For now, this AI search tool is in its earliest stages, meaning it will likely be some time before Apple announces or releases anything concrete.
