Apple lags in AI, with OpenAI's ChatGPT outperforming Siri by 25% in accuracy and answering 30% more questions, according to internal studies.

ChatGPT's remarkable leap highlights the gap between Apple and rival its platforms.

Apple's AI features

Apple's first batch of AI features, named Apple Intelligence, would be launching next week for iPhone 16 and 15 Pro users. However, early versions may include abilities like using Writing Tools for text manipulation, summarising alerts and articles, and auto-composing responses.

Exciting new features will roll out in the coming months to users, including Genmoji, Image Playground, and natively integrated ChatGPT.

Additional features such as Genmoji, Image Playground, and native ChatGPT integration will also be introduced to users and will arrive in the months following its potential rollout.

Gap between Apple and OpenAI

The gap between Apple and industry leaders like Google and OpenAI is substantial. Apple employees estimate it would take over two years to catch up and offer more powerful generative AI capabilities. This delay may allow Android to solidify its lead in the AI domain.

Despite its slow start, Apple can strengthen its unified hardware and software ecosystem to deploy new AI features at scale. By 2026, most Apple devices will be supporting Apple Intelligence, setting a path for Apple to become a dominant AI player in 2026.
