Apple is reportedly working on adding cameras and AI features to the Apple Watch, with a release expected by 2027. According to rumours, the future Apple Watch models will use Visual Intelligence, a smart feature first seen on the iPhone 16, to analyse the surroundings and provide helpful information.

Reportedly, the Apple Watch Series will have a camera inside the display, while the Apple Watch Ultra will place it next to the digital crown.

This would enable users to scan items, identify text, and receive real-time AI support. Apple is also said to be developing camera-enabled AirPods with the same capabilities.

Visual Intelligence already can pull event information from photos and recommend actions, like putting a restaurant address on your calendar.

Apple is currently using third-party AI models for this, but the company wants to create its own AI technology by 2027 to drive these intelligent Apple wearables.

AI-powered future for Apple wearables

The success of these AI functions will rely on Mike Rockwell, who's heading Apple's Siri AI refresh and previously headed the Vision Pro headset. Apple is also in the process of developing AR glasses, but that is still some years off.

Though Apple has not formally announced these upgrades, speculation indicates that the future Apple Watch will be a big step up, merging AI and wearable tech to provide a wiser and more interactive experience.
