Apple seems to be gearing up to level up its headset game, as the new Vision Pro headset has been spotted on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website, the US regulatory agency that oversees wireless frequency use.
Since FCC approval is necessary for selling devices with wireless capabilities in the US market, the appearance of a new Vision Pro variant could mean an imminent launch.
Citing documents from a trusted source, UploadVR noted a new "Head Mounted Device" from Apple, with a submission date of September 16.
Although the document doesn't explicitly mention the name "Vision Pro," the diagrams included closely resemble the design of the existing headset.
The new Vision Pro headset is also speculated to feature a Thread radio, which would allow it to connect directly with smart home devices.
This discovery is in line with ongoing reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who claim that Apple is preparing an updated Vision Pro with either the M4 or M5 chipset, with only minor changes expected apart from the chip upgrade and possibly a new strap.
The current Vision Pro uses the M2 chipset, and while the M5 chip has yet to be officially announced, the M4 is reported to offer a 50% more powerful CPU and four times the GPU power compared to the M2.
While the iPhone maker hasn't shared anything concrete about a new Apple Vision, the FCC listing hints that an announcement is on the horizon.
