While the Boeing Starliner spacecraft successfully landed from the International Space Station (ISS) to Earth on September 7 at White Sands Space Harbor in New Mexico, it left behind the NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore.
According to NASA, the two astronauts will host a news conference directly from ISS, offering the public to listen to their experiences and insights during their extended mission.
Both the stranded astronauts have been stationed at the ISS since June and are now expected to return home in February 2025 in the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, after marking an 8-month stay for the duo.

NASA astronauts’ safety concern
NASA’s program manager Steve Stich when asked about astronauts's safety in space stated, “There is no rush to bring the crew home as the station is a nice, safe place to stop and take our time to work through the vehicle and make sure we’re ready to come home.”
Moreover, NASA revealed that Wilmore and Williams will continue their work as part of the Expedition 71/72 crew through February 2025 and will return with two other crew members assigned to the agency's SpaceX Crew-9 mission.
