The American transportation juggernaut Uber is set to offer autonomous robot deliveries in the UK, following a new partnership with Starship Technologies.
Starting in December, the launch of Uber's robot-assisted service will allow Uber Eats customers in Leeds and Sheffield to receive couriers via Starship's robots.
The team-up is part of Uber's plans to automate its enormous range of business operations—ride-hailing, couriers, food delivery and freight transport—as the company seeks to enhance growth.
The ride-hailing giant has also struck partnerships with other autonomous vehicle firms, such as Avride and Serve Robotics, for robotic food delivery in the US.
Under this collaboration, Starship's robots will operate at Level 4 autonomy, meaning they will be fully functional without human intervention within designated areas.
Uber is reported to have plans to expand these robot delivery services to additional European markets next year and introduce them in the US by 2027.
This development shows Uber's commitment to leveraging technology to improve delivery efficiency and customer experience.
