In a bid to provide users with greater flexibility to decide how feature-rich they want the popular AI chatbot, OpenAI is planning to offer new ChatGPT subscription options, with rumours pointing to weekly and lifetime plans.

M1Astra, a well-known AI tipster, brought to light details on X (formerly Twitter) after analysing code strings from the latest ChatGPT app build. Citing the tipster, Gadgets360 reported that new subscription tiers are on the horizon on the sidelines of the existing monthly and annual ChatGPT Plus plans.

Although the company has not officially confirmed the development, the code strings contain weekly and lifetime options under the subscription interface of ChatGPT Plus.

ChatGPT Plus, as of now, is priced at $20 per month, with the ChatGPT Pro tier, launched in December 2024, costing $200 a month. However, the anticipated introduction of shorter-term and once-a-lifetime payment plans might attract users seeking temporary access, such as students or users exploring advanced AI features.

While the weekly plan could be more practical for offering affordable and short-term access, a lifetime subscription has caused a stir around long-term pricing and the evolving capabilities of AI chatbots.

Since the rollout of ChatGPT's new plans is yet to be confirmed by the company, the development suggests that OpenAI is exploring new ways to make its services more widely available while meeting diverse user needs.
