The Shawwal moon has been seen in Pakistan, and Eid ul Fitr 2025 will be observed on Monday, March 31, as per the announcement made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on Sunday.

The announcement was made after a meeting at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Islamabad, where religious scholars and officials from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Suparco, and the Ministry of Science and Technology verified the moon sighting.

The meeting was chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, who informed that genuine reports of moon sighting were submitted from various cities, such as Lahore, Bahawalpur, Islamabad, Sheikhupura, and Kasur. As there was a clear sky in the majority of the country, the moon was visible, making the announcement possible early.

Muslims in Pakistan are now preparing for Eid ul Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. The festival is greeted with prayers, feasts, and family reunions after fasting for a month, introspection, and worship.

While Pakistan will observe Eid ul Fitr on March 31, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, and Iran celebrated the festival on Sunday after the Shawwal moon was sighted there a day earlier.

In the meantime, several countries such as Oman, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, and Australia failed to see the Shawwal crescent on Saturday, confirming Eid will be celebrated on Monday, March 31. Indonesia, India, and Bangladesh stretched Ramadan to 30 days, relying on astronomical observations and local attempts at moon sighting.
