Epic Games is offering game developers an alternative means of making more money. The company informed that beginning this June, developers will be entitled to retain all their revenue up to $1 million every app annually should they opt to use the Epic Games Store as their payment gateway.

Fortnite is a globally popular multiplayer game where players compete to be the last person alive. It has millions of users globally and is popular for its enjoyable gameplay, imaginative graphics, and regular updates.

Epic Game Store update

Epic Games has frequently criticised Apple for charging large commissions to developers.

With this latest update, Epic Games is providing developers with a 0% fee on their first $1 million in revenue via the Epic Games Store.

Once past that threshold, the standard 88/12 revenue split will be used. For comparison, Apple and Google charge smaller developers a 15% cut, so Epic's offer is more appealing.

Epic is also launching "webshops" in June. These are webstores hosted by Epic Games where developers can sell products outside of their applications.

However, this avoids Apple and Google's high charges. For a promotion, Epic will reward 5% back as Epic Rewards for all webshop purchases.

These can be redeemed for future purchases on the Epic Games Store.

Furthermore, this revelation arrives immediately following a significant court ruling that now prevents Apple from blocking third-party payment links.

Epic Games also revealed that Fortnite will resume availability on the iOS App Store in the US next week, following its removal in 2020.
