The European Union (EU) office has issued a “scam alert” warning to Pakistanis regarding a scam involving fake embassy entries and telephone numbers.

The scam, which is being perpetrated by criminal organisations, aims to spread misleading information about visa and consular appointments.

European Union alerts Pakistani visa applicants

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) the EU Delegation to Pakistan revealed that various fake entries for EU member state embassies had been observed in Islamabad.

Spotted on Google Maps, these fake embassy entries are providing incorrect information about visa and consular appointments, as well as fake phone numbers.

"This is a serious scam by criminal organisations," the EU office noted.

The EU office also stressed that citizens should only rely on authentic information and contact data available on the websites of the EU member states' embassies.

The EU office has clarified that only the EU member state embassies’ official websites provide authentic details for visa and consular matters.

However, to avoid being a victim of this scam, the EU office has advised Pakistanis to contact the relevant embassy or consulate in the country for obtaining the required visa for their travel destination in Europe.

Additionally, the EU office noted that individuals can report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
