The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has officially announced that it is launching a major aviation overhaul with new airport projects in Mirpur (Azad Kashmir), Dera Ismail Khan, and Hyderabad.
With this major launch, the PAA aims to improve air connectivity across underserved regions. In a strategic move, land acquisition for the Dera Ismail Khan (D.I. Khan) airport has begun, while the Mirpur airport feasibility is reportedly in its final stages.
These initiatives will address long-standing transportation gaps in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and surrounding areas.
On the other hand, for Hyderabad, authorities have been directed to restart commercial flight operations and start an aviation training institute to build skilled manpower for the growing aviation sector.
The Sukkur Airport is set for complete reconstruction. Once revamped, it will operate as a regional hub for northern Sindh, expanding access and streamlining air travel for nearby districts.
According to the PAA, international aviation experts from Japan and Switzerland are part of the planning team, ensuring global standards in infrastructure and design.
Moreover, these four projects are part of a broader plan to transform Pakistan’s aviation network, boost regional development, and create new economic opportunities across the country.
With the expansion in the airports, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government aims to strengthen regional air links while supporting education and skill-building in aviation through dedicated training centres.
