Samsung is reportedly planning to unveil its inaugural extended reality (XR) headset named "Project Moohan" at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event scheduled to take place on January 22 (Wednesday).

This move marks the South Korean company's entry into the wearable XR headset market, following its decade-old entry into virtual reality (VR) with the launch of the 2015 Gear VR headset.

The Project Moohan XR headset was first announced in December 2024 as a rival to the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3.

According to a report by the South Korean publication Business Korea, Samsung is expected to showcase the prototypes or teaser videos of the Project Moohan headset at the Unpacked event.

Recently, the company teased some of the headset's features, including multimodal input, state-of-the-art displays, and passthrough capabilities.

The headset also runs on Android XR, a new operating system designed for XR devices, which is developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm.

Samsung’s headset is expected to support several features, including Circle to Search with gesture support, web browsing via Google Chrome, immersive views using Google Maps, and live translation of text seen within the wearer's point of view.

While the XR headset market has experienced a slowdown, with global VR headset shipments declining 4% year-over-year and the decline in AR smart glasses shipments increased by over 30% (YoY), it is expected to see a 2% growth (YoY) in the upcoming period.
