Google has denied a new report alleging that the company is preparing to introduce ads inside Gemini, its flagship AI chatbot.
The report, published by Adweek, claims Google is already in discussions with advertisers to bring targeted ad placements to the Gemini experience as early as 2026.
Reportedly, two advertising clients said they had spoken with representatives from Google about the possibility of placing ads through Gemini.
However, Google strongly denied the claims, saying no such conversations have ever taken place.
Google's Vice President of Global Ads, Dan Taylor, also said the report was inaccurate and "based on uninformed, anonymous sources who are making inaccurate claims."
He further clarified on X that there are currently no ads in the Gemini app, adding that the company has "no current plans to change that."
The rumour comes at a time when the broader AI industry is considering new monetisation models. ChatGPT, a rival platform, is reportedly mulling ads too, after recently uncovered code referred to "search ad," "ad features," and similar terms.
Meanwhile, OpenAI didn't confirm any plans; the findings hint at ad-supported features that are in the making.
Google has tested advertising in other AI products. It has recently been confirmed that Search’s AI Mode now contains sponsored results alongside AI-generated answers. These tests suggest Google is considering how ads could live with AI features across the ecosystem.
