Google is rolling out a sweeping upgrade to Google Photos, with more intuitive editing through artificial intelligence. The company has rolled out a new conversational editing tool powered by Gemini, which allows users to just describe what they would like to change in their photos, either with typing or speaking.
Rather than sift through filters or pick things manually, users can provide more natural commands like "remove cars from the background", "repair this old photo", and "make it brighter".
The AI will perform the edits automatically, opening advanced photo editing up to users who may not have the professional expertise.
The feature will arrive on the Pixel 10 series in the United States first and then on more devices worldwide. As noted by GSMArena, once this ability is branded and rolled out, it will eliminate the requirement to know particular techniques when editing, and people can engage with the plain language prompts to generate a result.
Examples provided include "remove reflections", "restore washed-out colours", or "add things", all of which change their photos instantly.
Google Photos will also have predefined, suggested edits for users who are unsure of how to edit their shots. If further control is desired, users can give follow-up directions, refining their image step-by-step until a desired result is achieved.
Alongside this update, Google is rolling out C2PA Content Credentials in its Pixel 10 camera app and Google Photos.
