Google Photos, the go-to app for millions of users to store and manage pictures, is getting a major visual upgrade with a refreshed Photo view. The new design brings a lighter look, smoother controls, and easier access to details, but Android users will have to wait a bit longer.

The update is now being released for iOS users, and it redesigns the view you have when you open a photo within the app. There are three larger changes driving this update in an effort to make it a better, more user-friendly experience.

The first is that the app now supports dynamic light mode, meaning that the app theme will match your phone's settings through the device-wide light or dark mode setting. So that means if your phone is in light mode, you will no longer have to view your photos against a black background.

Secondly, photo details like date, time, and location information will now be displayed on your image, rather than requiring users to swipe up to access that information.

The updated three-dot menu option, located in the top right-hand corner, will allow users to access tools more easily, like Google Lens, About, Cast, Save As, Create (to start collages or cinematic clips), and options to Download or Delete photos off of the device.

A new contextual menu for photo stacks and bursts is also now available. Users can unstack images, change the cover photo, or select images for batch actions on the contextual menu.

While iPhone users are already receiving the update, Android users will be receiving the new Photo view in the weeks to come.
