Google unveiled that it is set to introduce new Wallet updates for travellers and commuters. Essentially, Google Wallet would start beta testing the capability to create a digital ID from your United States passport.

The ID pass is said to work at select Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints when travelling domestically. In addition to TSA checkpoints, Google said it's working with partners to make digital IDs acceptable in more situations, like car rentals, account recovery and identity verification.

You would be able to create an ID pass by selecting the “create an ID pass with your US passport” option in the Google Wallet app. You will be asked to scan the security chip in the back of your passport.

Then, you are required to take a selfie video to verify your identity. Google claims it takes a few minutes for your ID pass to be ready.

Google emphasised the importance of carrying your physical ID, noticing that a digital ID is not a replacement for your actual ID.

Moreover, Google announced that people in the US can now include select prepaid commuter benefit cards in Google Wallet, starting with Edenred and HealthEquity, along with the company says it’s working to bring transit and payment companies to give mobile payments to more users globally.

Google Wallet is set to integrate a new feature that will automatically import your transit tickets from your Gmail booking confirmations. Soon, you will see live train status updates from your ticket in the app.

Additionally, Alphabet-owned Google announced that users will receive notifications when a pass changes or gets a message.
