Here’s how you can create Google Gemini shortcut on iPhone

iPhone has received Google’s Gemini for a long time, but it’s not easy to access since it’s hidden under a few clicks in the main Google app. Currently, there’s a simple method to use Gemini from your iPhone’s home screen or using the Action Button.

However, there’s no specific Gemini app on iOS. Google does have an app experience for Gemini on Android, but iPhone users need to use the main Google app to utilise the chatbot (unless they use a web browser).

To launch Gemini on iPhone, you’re required to open the Google app and then switch to the Gemini tab. It’s an immediate process, but for regular users, it’s a little irritating that you can’t quickly jump into the Gemini chatbot.

Playdate game developer Matt Sephton dug into the Google app for iOS and found the needed shortcut to release Gemini directly from the home screen or using the Action Button on the iPhone 15 Pro series.

How to add Google Gemini to the iPhone home screen

Gadinsider has compiled a step-by-step guide for adding Google’s Gemini to the iPhone home screen.

1. To begin including Google Gemini on the iPhone’s home screen, you will be required to open the Shortcuts app.
2. From there, tap the “+” button in the top right corner to generate a new shortcut.
3. Find the Open URLs option in the “Actions” menu. You can type “open URLs” into the search bar to easily find it.
4. On that action, type in “googleapp://robin” which is the deeplink for directly opening Gemini.
5. From that point, you’re technically done, but you can take this a few steps more.
6. Firstly, you should rename the shortcut from its default “Open URLs” to “Gemini” or whatever else you select.

You can also customise the icon.

1. When you add the icon to your home screen, though, you can utilise whatever picture you’d like as the icon.
2. To copy the same icon as Gemini’s Android app, use the image file hosted on the Play Store at this link.
3. When you first use this shortcut, you’ll need to allow it to open the Google app, but this is a one-time permission that pops up on the first use.
4. Opening the shortcut opens the Google app and then automatically switches the app to use Gemini instead of Google Search.

How to add Google Gemini to the iPhone 15 home screen

Moreover, if you have an iPhone 15 Pro, you can assign this shortcut to the Action Button by going to Settings > Action Button > Shortcut and then choosing the “Gemini” shortcut you just made. With that, a long press of the Action Button opens Gemini in the Google app.

By following the abovementioned steps, the iPhone will easily add Google’s Gemini as a shortcut on the home screen.
