In Pakistan, accessing your National Tax Number (NTN) is important for tax compliance, whether you're a salaried individual, freelancer, business owner, or property holder.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) provides an easy and convenient online platform to verify and retrieve your NTN using your Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number, streamlining tax-related processes.

Gadinsider offers a comprehensive guide on retrieving your NTN number using your CNIC through the FBR's IRIS portal. Notably, no physical visits or agents are needed, as the FBR offers this process 100% free and online.

Notably, in Pakistan, there are three types of NTN: Personal NTN, Association of Persons (AOP) / Partnership, and Company NTN.

You might need your NTN:

  • To file income tax returns with FBR
  • For freelancers or businesses receiving online payments
  • To register a company or business with SECP
  • To apply for government tenders or contracts
  • For property transactions, car registration, and banking compliance

NTN holders in Pakistan are required to submit their annual income tax returns to the FBR by the designated deadline, which for individuals is typically September 30 of each year. This requirement ensures compliance with tax regulations and avoids potential penalties.
