The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially launched a digital invoicing system for all sales taxpayers, aiming to bring automation and transparency to tax reporting.

The FBR stated that taxpayers are being integrated with the system on a priority basis. Businesses can connect their invoicing systems with FBR through licensed integrators, while the Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) is offering free integration services.

Once connected to the FBR’s digital invoicing system, it will automatically generate a digital invoice, including a QR code and a unique identification number.

Both the supplier and the buyer will have instant access to these invoices through a dedicated digital portal.

According to the FBR, the digital invoicing system has been introduced to ensure accurate data reporting, transparency, and reduce manual effort.

The new taxpayer Business Intelligence (BI) dashboard provides a comprehensive record of invoices, including their number, type, and value.

Taxpayers will also be able to load approved invoices into their tax periods with a single click. FBR added that the digital invoicing system will save time, cost, and effort, while transforming tax compliance in Pakistan.

According to officials, the platform will strengthen tax transparency, widen the tax base and reduce opportunities for invoice fraud. The system will also create real-time data for policy makers and allow faster audit selection based on analytics.

Previously, the FBR announced a new tax regime for Pakistan's e-commerce sector, mandating that online marketplaces (OMPs) and courier services cease providing services to unregistered sellers.

With this move, the FBR aims to formalise the digital economy and ensure tax compliance across the rapidly growing online retail landscape.
