
In line with the country's digital transformation ambitions, Pakistani universities are set to experience a notable AI and digital overhaul, thanks to a high-level delegation from Huawei that recently met with Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Nadeem Mahbub.
Discussions were aimed at reviewing ongoing collaborations and exploring new initiatives under the new Huawei–HEC Plan, which is designed to speed up the digital advancements in Pakistan’s higher education sector.
The tech giant, Huawei, highlighted its over 15-year partnership with HEC, while also underlining substantial contributions to the Higher Education Development in Pakistan (HEDP) projects.
Huawei's emphasis also remained on its role in establishing ICT Academies, focused on nurturing the next generation of digital talent, in universities across Pakistan.
A key achievement was Pakistan’s impressive performance in this year’s global ICT competition, where university teams secured first, second, and third positions, reflecting the impact of sustained investment in ICT education and training.
Other notable initiatives for digital transformation under the new Huawei–HEC Plan include the integration of AI into learning systems and the modernisation of network infrastructure.
As part of its support for Pakistan's educational framework, Huawei extended an invitation for HEC to participate in Huawei Connect 2025 in Shanghai, urging Pakistan to present a case study on its Education Cloud during the Cloud & AI Summit.
