Recognising the limitations of traditional paper-based systems for income tax returns filing, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced a significant digital transformation by introducing an online platform that allows salaried individuals to file their income tax returns.
Notably, with this move towards e-governance, the FBR aims to enhance convenience for taxpayers, boost revenue collection, and improve transparency in Pakistan’s tax administration.
Digitalised income tax return filing options
The FBR has launched an online e-filing portal that allows individuals and businesses to prepare, verify, and submit their income tax returns electronically from anywhere with internet access.
The e-filing portal reduces the need for physical visits to tax offices and dependency on cumbersome paper forms. In addition to providing ease to salaried individuals, the FBR introduced online forms that are designed to be intuitive and easy to navigate.
These digital forms often include built-in guidance and validation checks to reduce errors. Notably, the e-filing portal is accessible 24/7, offering taxpayers the flexibility to file their income tax returns at any time.
According to the FBR, taxpayers like salaried individuals can file an income tax return for the fiscal year 2024-25 until September 30.
