Pakistan Railways has officially decided to upgrade facilities along with safer travel for passengers, with a special focus on women and differently-abled individuals.
During a high-level meeting, Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi announced that gender-sensitive protocols will soon be implemented at railway stations and on trains to ensure women passengers have a safe, respectful, and peaceful travel experience.
On the occasion, Abbasi said: “Pakistan Railways considers all its passengers a valuable asset. These initiatives, particularly for women and persons with special abilities, reflect our commitment to providing a modern, inclusive, and passenger-friendly railway system.”
He added that to implement these changes, awareness posters will be placed at stations and on trains, while regular announcements and awareness messages will be broadcast.
The minister was of the view that Pakistan Railways will provide employees with gender-sensitisation training and specialised workshops, complemented by a wide-ranging awareness campaign focused on promoting women's safety and fostering an inclusive work environment.
In the meeting, it was also decided that all refurbished trains will have designated seating for persons with special needs, and wheelchairs will be provided at major stations to make their travel more dignified and comfortable.
