Apple finally unveiled the highly anticipated iPhone 16 series during the “It’s Glowtime” event on September 9, 2024. Alongside the major product announcements, the company also showcased the next iPhone operating system update, the iOS 18.
The Cupertino-based tech giant revealed that the iOS 18 update is set to be released on September 16, and will be supported by several iPhone models.
While the long-rumoured Camera Control feature is exclusive to the iPhone 16 lineup, the older iPhones running the iOS 18 RC will allow users to pause a video in the middle of a video recording.

Here’s how to pause video recording with iOS 18
This ability to pause video in the middle of a recording will enable iOS 18 users to take multiple shots in the same video, without the need to start and stop videos each time, making it possible to do jump cuts between scenes.
Now, when a user records a video on any iOS 18-supported device, he will see a new “Pause” button in the bottom left corner of the UI. By tapping this button users can pause the video whereas tapping it again would resume the video.
When the video is paused, users will see the button showing a "Pause" indicator at the top of the UI, just below the recording time within a red box.
Moreover, the pause button transforms into a record button, to indicate that it will resume the recording if pressed.
Additionally, switching between lenses while the video is paused is possible, enabling videographers to perform more zooms that instantly jump between focal lengths making post-production work easier.
