With Apple’s recently released iOS 18.1 beta 4, the iPhone 15 Pro has gained support for spatial photos, meaning users will now be able to take 3D images.

This spatial photo feature was first previewed at Apple's "It’s Glowtime" event held on September 9, 2024, where the company revealed that all iPhone 16 models would be able to take spatial photos.

Spatial photo capture feature coming to iPhone 15 Pro

Both the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max have been supporting the spatial video recording feature since their release last year.

However, with iOS 18.1 beta, iPhone 15 Pro users will find a “Spatial” option in the camera app that will easily toggle between capturing spatial videos and spatial photos.

Here’s how to capture spatial photos

As per the instructions stated on Apple’s website to capture spatial photos on the iPhone 15 Pro,

  1. Open the Camera app.
  2. Now, select “Spatial” mode.
  3. Then, rotate the iPhone to landscape mode.

In this way, the user will be presented with options to record spatial video and take spatial photos.

Moreover, these spatial photos can be viewed on Apple Vision Pro, allowing users to relive their favourite moments through the headset.

However, the recently unveiled Vision OS 2 will allow users to create spatial photos directly from any photo in their library.

Currently, iOS 18.1 is available in developer beta and is set to debut in October alongside the first batch of Apple Intelligence features.
