In the most recent iOS 26 update, tech giant Apple made a major enhancement to its Messages app in an attempt to address the growing issue of spam texts.
The new feature makes messaging more efficient and less disruptive by enabling users to automatically filter texts for spam.
How does the feature operate?
When enabled, the spam screening feature will identify and filter out texts that are probably spam, hiding them in a different area of the app and preventing them from causing notifications.
As a result, users will no longer be distracted by unsolicited messages, and their view of their primary conversations will stay clear of clutter.
To make it simpler for users to manage their messages, the Messages app will divide filtered texts into four distinct sections. These sections are
- Messages: Consistent dialogue with familiar contacts
- Unidentified Senders: Unknown numbers sending texts that aren't necessarily spam
- Spam: Texts that the Messages app flags as spam
- Recently Deleted: Texts that have been erased but may be recovered if necessary
Additionally, the iOS 26 update gives users the option to modify the spam screening function to fit their own requirements and tastes.
Users have the option to separately enable or disable spam and unknown sender screening.
When there is a screened text that may need the user's attention, a visual prompt will appear on the filters button to make sure that no important messages are overlooked.
The iOS 26 Messages app's spam screening feature is a useful addition that makes it easier for users to deal with unsolicited texts.
This feature is expected to help many iPhone users by minimising unwanted interruptions, organising conversations, and simplifying message management.
Apple has once again shown its dedication to enhancing the user experience and offering creative fixes for common issues with this update.
