Apple's iPad is among the most capable tablets out there, particularly the iPad Pro with Apple Silicon processors. However, the company is set to make iPads work more like MacBooks, providing users with enhanced multitasking features and window control.
The tech giant will introduce a significant iPadOS update that brings more desktop-style features, as reported by Bloomberg. The updates will make iPads more productive and useful for work.
Although it won't turn the iPad into a Mac, the experience will be closer than ever.
iPadOS to get more powerful
As per the rumours, the following major iPadOS updates are to be anticipated "about a year" from when the M4 iPad Pro was released. The updates will concentrate on productivity, multitasking, and allowing users to manage app windows in a more efficient manner, similar to a Mac.
Moreover, Apple has taken a step in this direction with Stage Manager, introduced in iPadOS 16. It permitted the opening of several apps in windowed form. But many users felt it was too restrictive in comparison to MacBooks.
Apple enhanced this in iPadOS 17 by enabling users to resize windows more liberally, but it still did not feel as much like a Mac as an iPad.
In addition, with the planned release of M5-based iPads, Apple can now potentially provide that productivity surge long anticipated by users.
