Given humanity being just inches away from natural calamities, Apple seems to be considerate of that, which is why it has rolled out the new iOS 18.5 update with the integration of its life-saving emergency satellite features for iPhone 13 users for the first time.

The satellite communication on iPhone was exclusively available on iPhone 14 and models above it. However, the system is now there to facilitate another family of users with older iPhones in crunch time, allowing them to connect with emergency services when mobile or Wi-Fi networks are unavailable.

iPhone's satellite feature allows users to send emergency texts via satellite, share their location with contacts, and access roadside assistance in the hour of need.

The feature has proved to be incredibly fruitful for several rescue operations involving hikers stuck in natural disasters, TechCrunch reported.

Besides taking aboard satellite services, the iOS 18.5 update also refreshes support for carrier-based satellite services, such as the ones offered by T-Mobile with Starlink.

To check whether their iPhone 13 has received the satellite update, users can check for availability through the Cellular section within device settings.

The latest iOS 18 update was released alongside iPadOS 18.5, watchOS 11.5, visionOS 2.5, and security patches for macOS Ventura and Sonoma.
