Following the successful debut of the iPhone 16 series last month, Apple is now reportedly working on next year’s iPhone 17 series, which is expected to feature new OLED display technology.

DigiTimes reported that a Taiwanese company, Novatek, is working on a new OLED display, featuring a new technology called touch and display driver integration (TDDI), which is rumoured to be featured in the upcoming iPhone 17.

iPhone 17 to use Novatek's OLED TDDI technology

Reportedly, rumours suggest that Novatek's new TDDI displays are expected to start production in the second quarter of 2025, and Apple is likely to be one of its first customers.

This new TDDI technology would allow next year’s Apple devices to have thinner OLED displays, through the integration of the touch and display driver layers, suiting best with the rumoured ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air.

However, there is a slight chance Apple might first test this new display on other devices, including iPads, and Apple Watch, and this technology would also be suitable for the long-rumoured foldable iPhone or iPad.

Since the news is based on speculations and rumours, it’s not clear whether Apple will adopt the technology from Novatek or not.
