A new rumour hinted at what to anticipate from next year’s iPhone 17 lineup. Apple is rumoured to feature the iPhone 17 series with an updated 24MP front-facing camera.

According to Apple analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone, the tentatively named iPhone 17 Slim, the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max are set to be featured with a 24MP selfie camera with six plastic lens elements.

In reference, all 15 iPhone models boast a 12MP selfie camera with five plastic lens elements.

Moreover, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that at least one iPhone 17 model would be equipped with a 24MP selfie camera with a six-piece lens, so this update has now been rumoured by several sources. Kuo said these changes will "majorly enhance the image quality."

With a higher 24MP resolution, images can maintain their quality even when cropped to a greater degree, offering more flexibility in post-processing.

Additionally, a six-piece lens would slightly improve picture quality, as each element is designed to correct for different aberrations and distortions, leading to clearer, more accurate photos.

iPhone 17 series release date

Meanwhile, iPhone 17 models is likely to be released in September 2025, so they are still over a year away. Rumours about the two-generations-away iPhones always begin silently early, as Apple develops and prototypes products well before they are launched.
