While the world is bracing for the next iPhone 17 series, it appears that the so-far new iPhone models, including the iPhone 16 series, won't gain traction in Pakistan because of the enforcement of customs duties on imported goods.

It emerged on Sunday that the government has revised import valuations for Apple devices, including the latest iPhone 16 series, indicating that buying the latest iPhone models could cost Pakistanis fortunes.

The Directorate General of Customs Valuation, Karachi, issued new rates on Friday under Valuation Ruling No. 1909 of 2025, prompting concerns of further iPhone price hikes, ProPakistani reported.

The updated customs valuation covers 187 iPhone models, including 16 variants of the iPhone 16 and earlier models such as the iPhone 15, 14, 13, 12, and 11. The national customs regulatory authority has also applied depreciation allowances for older devices approaching the end of their lifecycles.

The development follows formal requests from the Collectorate of Customs (Airport), Islamabad, and multiple importers, who argued that the previous valuation framework carried more than a year ago was not in line with current international pricing trends.

Customs authorities advocated the need to include newer models, citing outdated figures.

The revised valuations have been rolled out after consultations with stakeholders and analysing 90 days of import data, paving the foundations of calculating duties and taxes on imported iPhones.
