Apple Store shelves are looking increasingly empty when it comes to the current generation iPhone SE. The model made its debut in 2022 and is rapidly running out.

According to Bloomberg, this is likely due to an upcoming release of a new iPhone SE model expected around April.

Apple iPhone 16E features

The new iPhone SE, possibly named iPhone 16E, is likely to feature a major redesign. It would include a 6.1" OLED display, Face ID, and USB-C support.

Additionally, it would feature Apple Intelligence, introducing features like Genmoji and Notification Summaries to the entire smartphone lineup. However, with these upgrades, the new iPhone SE is rumoured to be priced higher, starting at around $499.

Typically, Apple keeps older models at a reduced price when introducing new ones. For example, they kept the M1 MacBook Air around at a lower price after releasing the M2 model.

However, this may not be the case for the iPhone SE 3. The dwindling inventory suggests that Apple does not plan to keep the current version available at a lower price after the new model's release.

The current iPhone SE 3 is based on the 2017 iPhone 8 and is equipped with a good chipset and cameras. Yet, it does not compare well to Android phones in the $300 to 400 price range. Despite the appealing idea of a cheaper iPhone, it appears Apple would phase out the iPhone SE 3, which currently sells for $429. The new model would likely be priced higher.
