A move which seems to be complementing Pakistan's ever-growing auto sector, Ghandhara is set to launch a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version of the JAC T9.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, PakWheels suggested that this new model is expected to debut in the first quarter of 2026.

The introduction of the T9 PHEV will directly compete with the BYD Shark 6 PHEV, positioning JAC against a strong contender in the hybrid pickup market. Both vehicles are double-cabin pickups equipped with PHEV powertrains, enhancing competition in this growing segment.

Currently, the pickup market in Pakistan is dominated by diesel-powered double cabins, with few electrified options available.

From an evolutionary point of view, a locally assembled PHEV from Ghandhara could significantly expand consumer choice in Pakistan's premium pickup segment and normalise other manufacturers to speed up their own hybrid or electric offerings.

While specific details about specifications, pricing, and local assembly are under wraps yet, the introduction of the T9 PHEV indicates the automaker's quiet shift towards more sustainable vehicles.

The PHEV trim of the Jac T9 is expected to be one of the first PHEV pickups available in Pakistan if launched on time (early in 2026).
