As electric vehicles (EVs) are increasingly being normalised worldwide, Slate Auto has rolled out multiple concept versions of its EV across California to garner traction.
The Michigan-based startup is backed by Jeff Bezos and is evidently causing a stir in the high-end EV sphere ahead of its official debut on 24 April at Long Beach Airport.
According to TechCrunch, Slate Auto is committed to designing a highly customisable EV, which is being dubbed a “Transformer,” whereas the EV maker's trademark phrase reads: “We Built It. You Make It.”
Under the guise of fake businesses, the company’s early prototypes were purportedly seen in Venice and Long Beach, with each model including a hatchback and a two-door SUV, forming a design that paints a unique modular silhouette.
“The car adapts to you,” said a company official privy to the matter. “It’s not just a vehicle—it’s an experience,” another added.
One of the Slate Auto EVs was spotted adorned in branding for “Rockabye Rides,” which is reportedly navigating to a website displaying a countdown for Slate’s launch event.
It was also reported that the EV will debut at around $25,000, with personalisation coming with the standard “Blank Slate” model.
