Stargazers in Pakistan, and others around the world, should prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime view in the coming week. On Monday, there will be a triple planetary alignment of Jupiter, Venus and Mercury in the eastern sky before dawn.
The show will begin with Venus, which will be shining among the stars of the constellation Cancer and will have Jupiter visible to its upper right, which will glow as a bright point of light about 20 degrees away.
To visualise where 20 degrees lies in the sky, experts state to visualise the width of your fist when your arm is completely stretched out. Experts believe about a fist's width equals 10 degrees of sky.
Mercury, which is the smallest, will rise about an hour before the sun and bring the 3-planetary lineup to completion. The three planets in the eastern sky will appear in a nearly perfect line, exposing the ecliptic, which is the path the eight planets travel in our daytime sky.
Please note that Mercury will brighten and fade quickly in the dawn light, so it is important to find a location with an unobstructed view down to the eastern horizon.
How to view triple planetary alignment of Jupiter, Venus and Mercury ?
While casual observers of the planets can view this incredible event with the naked eye, if you have access to a telescope that is a minimum of six inches, your viewing experience will be intensified.
Through your telescope you will be able to view Jupiter's four Galilean moons and the crescent-like phases Venus and Mercury display.
